Below are the winners of the Writivism Short Story Prize 2014.
Overall winner: Saaleha Idrees Bamjee, Out of the Blue
1st Runner up: Saaleha Bhamjee, Lunatic
2nd Runner up: Ngasa Wise Nzikie, Devils
Regional Winner, Eastern Africa: Ssekandi Ronald Sseguja, Walls and Borders
Regional Winner, Westerm Africa: Kelechi Njoku, Survived By
The Overall Winner took Uganda Shillings 1,000,000/= , the 1st runner-up 500,000/= and the 2nd runner-up 250,000/=. Each of the regional winners took home 200,000/=.
The announcement of the winners was made on Short Story Day Africa, the 21st of June during the Writivism Festival in Kampala, Uganda by Mr. Fred Musisi, the local consultant for the Danish Centre for Culture and Development, Mr. Francis Peter Ojede, the Executive Director of the Uganda National Cultural Center, Mr. James Tumusiime, the Managing Editor of The Observer Media Ltd, and Nii Ayikwei Parkes and NoViolet Bulawayo, both members of the Writivism Board of Trustees.
Congratulations to the winners. We at CACE are looking forward to the 2015 Writivism cycle, details of which will be announced in August 2014.
